My original short story of supence

The Red River of the Fictional World...

In the small town of Ravian a mall river runs right past the town. And ever since the town was founded there has been a story going around, that once very year, at around late September to early October, when the Ravian River turns from a sparkling blue to a blood red, a young child, under the age of 12, would die.

When Jayson Gump, a boy who just moved in about a month ago with his family, first heard of this story he just laughed. What a silly story! He thought. But when his teacher talked about it in class, Jayson started to believe.

He learned about Mandy Coort, last year’s victim. She was only 10. She died in bed clutching her favorite teddy bear. It was late September and the whole town seemed to be in a state of panic. Who was going to die this year, which family would be the unlucky one? Jayson didn’t see why he had to be scared, be was 12 this year, and what were the chances of him being the one in a town full of children. But he still felt depressed when he thought that one family would be loosing their child, possibly their only child soon.

That night when everybody fell asleep the river’s color slowly changed, like somebody slowly bleaching it red. Jayson lied in his bed, tossing and turning, having nightmares of death, and misery. Then in the middle of the night, it stopped. The next day when Jayson’s parents woke up but Jayson wasn’t up yet, they just thought he was sleeping in; it was a Saturday after all.

But when Jayson’s parents turned on the T.V. they heard a report saying that the river was red last night at around 3 in the morning. They continued to watch to see which family had unfortunately lost a family member. To their surprise, the news didn’t report any. Jayson’s parents were relieved.

They quickly went upstairs to tell their son the news. But when they turned him over to wake him up, Jayson had foam around his mouth and tones of small wounds on hi body, all of which were still bleeding. Jayson’s parents in a state of panic quickly took Jayson to the hospital.

There the doctors pronounced that Jayson had died, due to drowning. They also found some cotton wool in his mouth and wounds, like the stuff they use to stuff stuffed animals with. Jayson’s parents had no choice but to face reality. Three days later they put Jayson’s body in a metal casket and set him afloat on the Ravian River, They thought it was a worthy burial.

Jayson’s casket floated down the stream never to be seen again. And with the leaving of the casket, the river turned back to blue.
